The Lee Valley Athletics Centre has been awarded the 2010 RICS Award for Sustainability. The results were announced at an awards ceremony at St Pauls Cathedral on 12th May.
The innovative design for the Lee Valley Athletics Centre (LVAC) by David Morley Architects in association with environmental engineers Max Fordham LLP has achieved the highest DEC (Display Energy Certificate) rating - grade A on a scale of A-G; demonstrating a very low annual CO2 emission and energy consumption. DEC’s are now required for all public buildings, and only the top 1% achieved the A grade.
Lee Valley Athletics Centre is the only elite athletics training centre in the South East and is a key facility for British athletes aiming to compete in the 2012 Olympics. Three of the four British track and field medallists at Beijing train there. It also hosts a variety of community and other uses - some of which target people who have never tried in athletics before.
